Sean Hunt began playing the drums in June 2006. He spent his early musical years performing in Rock ‘n’ Roll and Blues bands before turning his interest to Jazz at the age of sixteen. The next two years brought regular gig opportunities as a member of the Garforth Jazz Rock Band, performing at prestigious venues such as The Wardrobe and Seven Arts in Leeds; as well as a tour of Durban, South Africa in February 2011. Sean has also performed at events such as the Garforth Arts Festival and the National Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham.
Sean graduated from the University of Hull with a first class honors degree in Jazz and Popular music, and was awarded the Mike Somerton Award for Jazz Performance. During his degree he studied under Kristoffer Wright and gained valuable experience performing as part of the Hull University Big Band and The Jazz Aesthetic, directed by Dr. Peter Elsdon. He also performed as part of a Jazz residency led by Juno award winning pianist David Braid in March 2014.
Sean has experience performing professionally around the country. He has performed as part of the resident bands at venues such as Pave and Hull Jazz. His professional experiences have allowed him to perform alongside a wide range of artists including Tom Gee and Ubunye. Sean has also played in the pit bands for a variety of theatre productions. Alongside performing, Sean delivers private and peripatetic drum lessons to students of a wide range of ages and abilities.
